Glass Panel Transition Program For the Garmin 1000

The availability of technically advanced avionics in light aircraft is intended to make navigation and flying more enjoyable and improve safety. transitioning from the conventional “steam gauges” to the glass panel presentation of information should be fun and safe as well.

Air Orlando Flight School is well appointed to provide you with this training because of its factory trained instructors, new and modernly equipped selection of aircraft, and full-motion Level III Simulator equipped with both the Bendix King KLN-95 and the Garmin 430 which drives the G1000 panel.

G1000 Training will take place in our 182 or Diamond Star aircraft.

Each pilot is provided a personal copy of the GNS 430 flight simulator on CDROM and training guide.

A two-hour Ground School is available at $30 which helps you understand why and how the G1000 does what it does. An additional 1-hour in-aircraft training session is designed to give you hands-on experience at hardware operation. Flight session(s) from 2 to 5 hours complete the transition training so you can build the confidence and in-the-air experience to enjoy and safely fly with the new avionics package soon to be common place.

Note that we can incorporate in the session the meeting of requirements for an Instrument Proficiency Check, Flight Review, and Renter Check-out, thus making the Glass Panel Transition Program more useful, if you have the need and so desire.

Flight Session Agenda for the Cessna 182

  • First, get familiar with the performance and control of the aircraft (Slow flight, stalls, take-offs and landings).
  • Next, practice navigation and build proficiency for Direct-To, Tuning Nav/Com’s, Transponder Operations, Basic Multi-Function Display and Engine Monitoring, Failure Modes, and autopilot functions.
  • Then, really develop operating skills intercepting and tracking navigation systems and unusual attitude recovery.
  • If you are Instrument Rated, now you can build on these basics by learning and practicing 2 non-precision approaches, 1 precision approach, and holding procedures
  • Finalize your transition training with post-flight procedures (checking instruments and equipment) and improving your Aeronautical Decision Making and Risk Management skills.

Anticipate $30 for the 2-hour ground school, $36 for the in-aircraft ground training, plus $350 to $875 for dual in the C-182, or $250 to $625 in the Diamond DA-40 for the in-flight training.
